Tom Steele
author and editor

He was a great and gentle man with the most focused identity of our time—his time. He moved among us with bird-like delicacy and vivid plumage, writing and speaking his truths to our delight and occasional mild exasperation. (Sometimes I think he just wanted to make sure we were awake and listening.) He bore his punishing past well, and spent the autumn and winter of his years basking in fame that often bewildered him and always considerably refreshed the rest of us. He gave so tirelessly to all he could, and left quite a hole in our universe with his passing. Yet clearly there are many things about Quentin that will simply never die.
